Tomorrow's Pentecost

Fact: Pentecost was originally an Old Testament harvest festival celebration of fifty days which followed the Passover. Later on, Pentecost became known as the commemoration of Moses having been given the Law upon Mount Sinai. Pentecost, permanently took on a lasting new meaning with the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles at Pentecost.

Did you know? Pentecost's lasting meaning can be celebrated not only on a single day but throughout the year to follow. Through the Sacrament of Chrismation, annointing with the chrism completing baptism, we experienceour own personal Pentecost in that we recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit. Each Divine Liturgy becomes a Pentecost through the descent of the Holy Spirit on the faithful, with the gift of the Holy Spirit being that of transforming the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
