Could Your Grace please explain the Holy Gospel of St. John 5:34-47? How does it concern us now in our days?

Although this passage was directed to the Jews, it is also for us to learn from and apply to our life. It is for today’s believers and non-believers. The message is that the Holy Scriptures (the Holy Bible) speak God’s voice (v 37), lead us to believe in our Lord Jesus Christ (v 38), lead to eternal life (v 39), reveal our sins (v 45). By refusing to believe Holy Scriptures, we refuse to believe our Lord Jesus (v 47). Also, we learn that the love of God should be apparent in our life (v 42).

The Jews, and in particular their religious leaders, knew what the Scriptures said; but failed to apply them to their lives. They knew the teachings of the Holy Scriptures but failed to see the Messiah to whom the Scriptures had referred. They knew the rules but missed the Savior; and refused to let the Son of God change their lives. This is a clear message to those who are in the church, who read the Holy Bible; yet fail to know our Lord Jesus Christ and follow His way.
