How old is the universe and the earth? I have been reading on the issue and some say that the Holy Bible says is 6000 years old while many credible scientists show the earth to be 4.5 billion years old. What does our Church think and why? I do not think that the Bible gives an account on the specific age of the earth, but when it mentions the creation in six days, it is just a way that God tries to put the actions of creation to our limited perspective. However, I am unsure if this is the right view. Please tell me what is the correct perspective.

The 5500 or 6000 years are the age of humanity, not the age of the earth. Neither the age of the universe nor the earth are biblically known. Any answer would be mere speculation. The Holy Bible is neither a science book nor a history book, although it corroborates scientific and historical facts. The Holy Scripture is the pure narrative of humanity's existence, salvation, and restoration.
