I need your advice on how to deal with boys. I say hello to them after church, chat with them politely in a group or alone, but I do not want people to start talking about me. My mom says that I don't need to talk to boys. She compares me to my cousin who doesn't talk to boys. However, she is in grade six only. How do I convince my mother that what I am doing is not wrong?

It seems strange that all the girls in your church tattletale. Are you sure this is not overgeneralization on your part? Trust is a broad term. If you are talking about general issues with your friend, then there is nothing for you to hide and should not care if what you say is repeated to others. However, gossiping is definitely a sin. May be God wants to use you to teach others that gossip is a vice that should be stopped.  For example, whenever your friends are about to gossip, you can boldly say, "How about we only talk about the people presents with us" Pray that God will open their eyes so that they are able to follow His path. Do not be discouraged, because with prayers the Lord will help you find the good friends you are looking for.

Are the boys any better than the girls in the quality of their conversation? Is there a special boy you like to talk to or is it just boys in general. It is OK to talk to boys if you are in a group of boys and girls in the church talking about a general subject. However, you have to always keep in mind what St. Paul taught us "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Cor 10:31). Beware of private conversations or intimacy with a certain boy because this eventually might cause you to deviate from the right path of God.
